Temple of Apollo, Didyma
The Temple of Apollo stands in the Hisar neighbourhood, just 2.1 km from Didim centre. In antiquity Didyma was the sanctuary of Miletus and the end of the roughly 16.5 km Sacred Way that ran from Miletus. Didim Municipality notes that the great earthquake of 1493 did the temple its worst damage.
Miletus, city of the philosophers
The ruins of Miletus, in Balat, are 22.6 km from Didim (about 30 minutes). The home of Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes once sat on the coast; silt carried by the Büyük Menderes (Maeander) river has left it in the middle of a plain. The road passes Akköy, known for its white-washed houses.
Priene
Priene, near Güllübahçe in Söke, is 42.4 km from Didim (about 45 minutes) — an Ionian city laid out on a grid of right-angled streets, like Miletus.
Lake Bafa and Herakleia
Lake Bafa is 39.4 km from Didim; the lakeside village of Kapıkırı and Herakleia under Latmos are 47.1 km. Municipal sources describe Herakleia's 6 km of walls with 65 towers and the Temple of Athena on the shore.
